How did you become interested in the beauty industry?
Growing up my mom was a hairdresser, so the hair industry is something I grew up around and always had an interest in.
Why did you choose ARROJO Cosmetology School?
To be honest I stumbled upon ARROJO cosmetology school by chance. I was checking out another school in the city with my dad and we happened to drive down the block of ARROJO. I had my dad pull over so I could run in. I know it sounds corny but the second I walked through the door I knew it was the place for me. It seems like fate drove me down that block!
Is there anything that stands out in your mind about your experience here?
School was always a struggle for me. Although this time I knew it would be different because I would be learning something I was interested in, the testing and the high caliber expectations made me really nervous. From the first day, ARROJO made me feel extremely comfortable. The teachers were informational and patient and every learning experience was fun rather than intimidating.
What is your favorite new skill?
My passion is coloring. Every year that goes by I get more and more comfortable behind the chair. I love meeting new people, so I must say that even though clients aren't a hands-on skill, they are my favorite part of the day!
Any advice you can share with current or prospective students?
My advice is to take every single experience in because graduation comes so fast! School is the foundation of your career so really soak up all you can. As a hairdresser you never stop learning but you will never forget where your education started.
What did you do after graduation, and where are you working now?
I started working at ARROJO SoHo 2 weeks after I graduated. I completed my apprentice program there, had my first year on the floor and then transferred to ARROJO Williamsburg! It has been so exciting to be on the Williamsburg team from the beginning and watch its growth. Besides being a full time stylists I am also an educator for the ARROJO Advanced Academy and a guest educator (back where it all started) at ARROJO Cosmetology School! How cool is that?!
