After graduating with a degree in computer engineering, Sima quickly realized she was lacking passion in her career. After making the ultimate career change and enrolling in Cosmetology School, she now wakes up every morning with a passion for making clients look and feel their best and the drive to be the best hairdresser she can be. We caught up with her to talk about her life-changing experience at ARROJO Cosmetology school.
How did you become interested in the beauty industry?
I graduated from computer engineering and then started working as a programmer. I enjoyed programming but it wasn't for me. Everyday when I woke up I didn't have a passion for it. I wanted a career where I would be able to talk to people, make them happy, have fun and express my creativity! I thought a lot about it, and then I decided to see some beauty schools to help me decide what to do.
Why did you choose ARROJO Cosmetology School?
I was so new to this country, and the only place that made excited and confident about my decision to switch careers was ARROJO! I remember Admissions Director Krista and Financial Aid Director Maria who made the transition easier with their great advice! I will never forget them. I didn't even know much about cosmetology but I had a feeling that this was the place I wanted to be, the place that would give me confidence, passion, and goals!
Is there anything that stands out in your mind about your experience here?
I remember the first day at school I was a little nervous because English isn’t my first language. When I introduced myself everyone clapped for me and welcomed me with open arms! I was shocked at how warm everyone was to me.
What is your favorite new skill?
I really enjoy every aspect of doing color, highlights, hair painting, even shampooing a single process. But if I had to choose one thing I would have to say highlighting is my favorite service to do.
Any advice you can share with current or prospective students?
If you really enjoy doing hair, the best thing for you to do is to surround yourself with positive people. All the careers have challenging moments, even hairdressing but when you positive energy around you, it really makes a difference. Which is why I love my job at ARROJO Studio so much!
What did you do after graduation, and where are you working now?
I applied for a job at ARROJO studio SoHo, and I started working exactly one week after my graduation. Making the transition from student to stylist was challenging and came with a lot of responsibility, but the ARROJO team was committed to helping me along the way. I found my mentor and came in everyday working to be the best I could be and now I am flourishing. After changing careers and mastering my craft, I can finally say that when I wake up every morning I am so happy with my career and my life.
