From salon styling to working on Broadway to traveling the globe as an editorial stylist, ARROJO Cosmetology School alumni are living their dreams everyday. In our latest Alumni Spotlight we catch up with Chaya Weisz, a Graduate from Class 40 who wowed us with her creativity and passion.
Chaya, how did you first become interested in the beauty industry?
I used to play around with hair, always creating different styles so when it came time for me to graduate high school my dad thought I'd be great in the cosmetology field and signed me up for a tour of ARROJO.
Why did you choose ARROJO Cosmetology School?
They were very understanding and worked with me on a personal level, which made the transition a lot easier. They broke down, step by step, the entire program and everything that goes into it.
Is there anything that stands out in your mind about your experience here?
The teachers are extremely knowledgeable and taught us great skills. I didn't even know haircutting scissors were called shears when I started.
What is your favorite new skill?
My favorite new skill from school is being able to cut hair. It's a skill that it's super useful. Everyone needs a haircut at some point.
Any advice you can share with current or prospective students?
Sometimes school seems tough and annoying, especially with the tests and State Board requirements but persevere. Once it's under your belt you will feel like a million dollars.
What did you do after graduation, and where are you working now?
After graduation I started freelancing full time doing hair and wigs for special occasions. It's a big passion of mine and I'm so grateful I get to do something I love everyday while retaining my independence.
