How did you become interested in the beauty industry?
I have always had an interest in the beauty industry. When I was younger, I would always play with makeup and loved how it could transform one's face. After going to college and pursuing a job in my degree, I decided that I wanted to do something that I was truly passionate about and where I could be creative.
Why did you choose ARROJO Cosmetology School?
I decided to go to ARROJO Cosemtology School because I was a long term client at the salon. I always loved the way I felt after I got my haircut and/or colored. When I decided to change career paths, I knew ARROJO was the place for me because of the quality of work that the stylists put forward. This was further confirmed after I looked into other cosmetology schools- no place carried the same professionalism and true love for their craft like ARROJO does.
Is there anything that stands out in your mind about your experience here?
At ARROJO Cosmetology school, we learned so much more than what we needed to know for state board exam, where as most schools mainly focus on helping students pass the test. We learned and executed modern and trending hairstyles that I was proud (and still am) to say that I did with only a few months of knowledge about the art of hairdressing. This was possible because of the school's hands-on approach to teaching. Even though there were several other students in my class, I still felt that I got all the attention I needed to succeed.
What is your favorite new skill?
As simple as it sounds, my favorite new skill set would be using the Denman hairbrush. I had always avoided using the Denman brush because the theory behind it seemed so complex, but now that I confidently know how to use to I feel so silly ever being intimidated by it!
Any advice you can share with current or prospective students?
To always continue learning and to push yourself out of your comfort zone.
What did you do after graduation, and where are you working now?
I explored other salons after I graduated and worked at another salon in NYC for about a year and a half and have recently returned home to ARROJO and have joined the team as a stylist apprentice. The atmosphere at ARROJO is truly inspiring and motivating and there are so many mentors there that are pushing you to be the best you can be. I couldn't be happier to be on-board and to take my career to the next level!
