How did you become interested in the beauty industry?
I have always loved hair and, since I was a little kid, I knew that I wanted to work in a salon. I was always experimenting with my sister's hair and while flipping through magazines, I would look at the models and celebrities and then recreate what I saw on friends, family, and myself. My parents wanted me to be an accountant and I was a semester shy of getting my degree in accounting, I decided that I had to pursue my bliss. I walked off campus and into my future by enrolling at ARROJO Cosmetology School.
Why did you choose ARROJO Cosmetology School?
When it came to deciding where I would go to school, I decided to ask someone in a local beauty school. I knew that I wanted to go to the best and thought that I should get some information of what to look for when making my decision. She told me sometimes they would show videos of Nick Arrojo cutting hair in her class and she let me watch one. I watched him cut hair and at that moment knew where I had to go.
Is there anything that stands out in your mind about your experience here?
My classmates and I came from many different backgrounds and had different experiences before coming to ARROJO Cosmetology School and what I loved most was that the educators really took the time to get to know us and were able to figure out what would work best with each person. Whether we needed more theory or more hands-on demonstrations, they were accommodating so that most of the time it almost felt like one-on-one teaching. The small classes also really encourage a team mentality and allowed us to be each other’s support throughout our fantastic journey.
What is your favorite new skill?
I am really excited to be using the techniques I just learned taking advanced razor at the ARROJO advanced academy.
Any advice you can share with current or prospective students?
My advice is that if this is your bliss, embrace it, work hard, and know that ARROJO Cosmetology School is a unique and extraordinary experience. Stay humble and always keep an open mind to learn.
What did you do after graduation, and where are you working now?
While attending ARROJO Cosmetology School, I started as a protégé at Richard Salon, an Arrojo ambassador salon, in Smithtown, Long Island. After graduation, I completed their apprenticeship and I am now a level 2 stylist/ colorist with a clientele that I love.
