How did you become interested in the beauty industry?
I became interested in the beauty industry by my old hairdresser and the woman who owned the salon. They always came to work with huge smiles on their faces and a lot of energy. I thought that must be awesome to feel that and get paid for it!
Why did you choose ARROJO Cosmetology School?
I chose ARROJO cosmetology school because of its structure . I spoke to a salon owner about the cosmetology school idea. She didn't even blink and told me it was a great idea. Obviously, I had to find out for myself. I had no idea the school was in the same building as the studio so that drew me in immediately. I also was super impressed with the organization of the curriculum.
Is there anything that stands out in your mind about your experience here?
Throughout my experience at ARROJO cosmetology school, I loved when stylists and colorists came in to do demos. At the time, it seemed like getting a chair was SO far away. Seeing colorists that went through the cosmetology school and the apprenticeship program talk about their success was very reassuring and motivating. Especially, since just fourteen months after graduating, I became a colorist there!
What is your favorite new skill?
My new favorite skill, although not a specific color technique, would definitely be teaching the apprentices. I love seeing what they come up with because you learn so much when you educate.
Any advice you can share with current or prospective students?
A good piece of advice would be to stay humble. Even the most seasoned master colorist or stylist can learn a new technique and a beginner hairdresser could be the one to teach it to you.
What did you do after graduation, and where are you working now?
After graduation, I looked all over NYC at salons with training programs. I went in as a client and got a blow dry or conditioning treatment to see how the salon ran. I was most impressed with ARROJO studio. I was hired three weeks after graduating and definitely made the right choice. I'm 22 with a clientele!
