How did you become interested in the beauty industry?
Most of the adults I was around when I was growing up were unhappy with their jobs. It was always stressful for them when Sunday evening rolled around, knowing that they would have to go to work the next day. I told myself I never wanted to put myself in a situation where I was unhappy in my career. I was always artistic and big into painting and doing different crafts. In 9th grade, I made a tiny salon in my basement and started doing hair and makeup for homecomings, weddings, proms, etc. I fell in love with the feeling of making someone look and feel beautiful.
Why did you choose ARROJO Cosmetology School?
After I realized I wanted to do hair, I started researching cosmetology schools. I grew up in Michigan, but I didn't feel like the cosmetology schools in the area offered exactly what I was looking for. I flew to NYC and did a tour of ARROJO and instantly fell in love with the space, location, curriculum, and the educators that I met. A year later, I moved to NYC and joined Class 24.
Is there anything that stands out in your mind about your experience here?
At ARROJO, you don't just learn how to do the basic hairdressing skills. You have the opportunity tolearn from some of the best people in the industry. The curriculum is cutting edge and hands-on. I love how they incorporated the business side of the industry, as well.
What is your favorite new skill?
My favorite new skill is teaching my amazing staff new hair-styling techniques.
Any advice you can share with current or prospective students?
Soak up everything you can while you are at ARROJO. Be present physically and mentally. Ask questions. Take advantage of the amazing opportunity you have.
What did you do after graduation, and where are you working now?
After graduation, I was an apprentice and then became a Color Specialist at Cristiano Cora Studio. As much as I loved being behind the chair, my heart and mindset was really into business. Three weeks ago, I just opened my first business in Englewood, New Jersey. It is called Bisous Beauty Bar and we offer express services such as blowouts, formal styling, makeup, and facial threading. I couldn't be more proud or happier.
