How did you become interested in the beauty industry?
I am the third oldest of nine sisters. My Dad, the only male, always had a pair of expensive scissors to cut his own hair and that was the only thing off limits. I would sneak in the bathroom, cut my hair and end up getting punished. Over time, I started to involve my sisters; experimenting on their hair in the living room, making homemade hair treatment remedies, and burning their foreheads from placing the curling iron to close. Fun disasters. :) As I got older, styling hair became a hobby and something I was known for amongst friends and family. One day, I was sitting in my insurance office in Scarsdale and thought to myself “if I am good at things I could care less about, imagine if I did something that I love doing, like hair?” From then on, the sky was the limit.
Why did you choose ARROJO Cosmetology School?
I researched many schools throughout New York City, Westchester County, and Florida. I sat in many offices and none sparked up my desire to enroll. I always left feeling empty like something was missing. When I found ARROJO, the location looked magnificent. As I walked into ARROJO, I saw students working hard with their educators standing nearby for assurance. Seeing that really intrigued me. I was told it was a very intense institute that focuses on education, the core foundation needed for any hair stylist future success. At that moment, I knew I found the perfect place to start my journey.
Is there anything that stands out in your mind about your experience here?
I have always been told that I am really good at hair, but I've realized there is so much more to learn and much more knowledge to gain.
What is your favorite new skill?
I cannot even name one. From my cutting techniques to body positioning to the way I hold my scissors to perfecting head sheets...I could go on and on. The education in this studio, as well as the institute, is beyond any others.
Any advice you can share with current or prospective students?
I was told this by many of my instructors at school and it has stuck in my mind...EVERYONE'S JOURNEY IN LIFE IS DIFFERENT; STAY FOCUSED & NEVER FORGET WHY YOU STARTED.
What did you do after graduation, and where are you working now? I applied to the best salon in the world, ARROJO STUDIO IN SOHO, and I am currently a Senior Apprentice.
