Another great success story of ARROJO Cosmetology School, Stefanie Stalder is a Graduate of our Part-Time Program, and has since joined our world-renowned team at ARROJO studio. Find out what else she has been up to in this spotlight...
How did you become interested in the beauty industry?
Hair was often an important topic for me growing up. Going to the salon had its ups and downs, with great haircuts and terrible ones too– needless to say the experience made an impression. I began cutting my own hair, friends’ and barbies’ as far back as 5 yrs old. Fast forward to college, after I graduated from design school in 2009, I started to really become interested in hair and the possibility of attending beauty school was a distant wish. Two years after working in the design industry, I began to crave a more hands-on work experience. I couldn’t imagine myself in front of the computer for the rest of my life.
Why did you choose ARROJO Cosmetology School?
I was a client at ARROJO for a year before I started at the cosmetology school. I knew I wanted to be a part of the ARROJO energy, and the perfect way was to start at the school– as a part time cosmetology student. Being part-time allowed me to work my full-time job in order to support this new journey.
Is there anything that stands out in your mind about your experience here?
The education and discipline. Pia Vivas was our main educator– she never gave up on us. We were her first part time class and together we raised the bar.
What is your favorite new skill?
Learning to visualize a haircut and knowing what technique to use to get there is a major challenge. I am learning from the best, thanks to Lina and Carmel for the tireless coaching.
Any advice you can share with current or prospective students?
Be open to growth. There are moments when you thrive and moments when you lose self-confidence and have doubts. In these more difficult times, open the door and allow for a next step in growth and learning. Times of “fall backs” happen but they provide for so much opportunity and it takes awareness to stay open and positive.
What did you do after graduation, and where are you working now?
I found myself right next door– at the ARROJO studio. After completing the intensive training program, I am a happy stylist on the salon floor with three full days, and awaiting my fourth in early October. I am thankful for the invaluable training I received and am looking forward to creating many more opportunities. Since graduation– I’ve also designed two new ARROJO products, being able to combine my love for design with my passion for hair is a great gift.
