My interest in the beauty industry goes back as far as I can remember. My mother owns a nail salon and, growing up, I spent a lot of time there. I felt a passion for beauty and was curious to learn more.
When I found ARROJO Cosmetology School, the location, style, and commitment to quality education appealed to me. Currently, I work as a Unit Secretary at a skilled nursing facility, so the part-time program was perfect because it meant I didn’t have to give up my day job to go back to school.
One major benefit of part-time is the small class sizes, as the night time program isn’t for everyone. We received a lot of attention and focus from our instructors. The intimate environment was a great place to learn.
The most inspiring thing about school is discovering how to change someone’s appearance and make them feel good about themselves. In my new career, I am looking forward to inspiring those who sit in my chair, being inspired by the creative people around me, sharing my passion for beauty, and the chance to keep learning and to try new things.
My biggest challenge has been stepping out of my comfort zone, and finding the confidence to believe that I can successfully do something new.
The best thing about going to school in the city is being so close to many interesting things, places, and people. I’ve lived in NJ my whole life, and I feel like I know everything there is to know in my neighborhood. However, in New York, new things are always happening and there is so much to experience.
Now that I’ve graduated I hope to apprentice in a salon where I will continue to learn and grow as a stylist as well as an individual. My education has helped me greatly, and I believe it has been an excellent start on my path to success in the beauty industry.
